While multiracial democracy was at last launched to Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland, Southern Rhodesians of European ancestry continued to appreciate minority rule. Intent on properly repudiating the not long ago adopted British coverage of "no independence just before vast majority rule", Smith issued a Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) from the United Kingdom on 11 November 1965.
